About the title
The events take place in 1878, during the Meiji era in Japan. The story centers on a wanderer named Himura Kenshin, who was once known as the assassin Hitokiri Battōsai — a first-rate killer whose katana sent countless people to their graves. After the war ends, Hitokiri decides to abandon his trade and vows never to kill another living being again. He travels across the country in search of those he can help, hoping to atone, even a little, for his sins.
