About the title
The events take us to the year 1238, where a fierce confrontation unfolds between Khan Batu and the town of Kozelsk, whose defenders fight to the death rather than submit to his power. The battles have already raged for seven long weeks. Then, despite the fierce resistance, Batu and his army enter the city. The result of this victory is the complete annihilation of all the fortress's defenders and civilians, paid for with the thousands of lives of the khan's warriors. In his fury, Batu orders that the city's former name, Kozelsk, be erased from memory. From now on, by his decree, the fortress town is to be called "the Evil City." However, despite this, Kozelsk will forever remain in memory as a symbol of unbending resilience and the courage it displayed.
