About the title
Mild-mannered Finn Wheeler is appointed the new ranger in the backwater northern town of Beaverfield. He meets the residents, who turn out to be one stranger than the next, and only postal worker Cecily seems like a sane person to him — and more than that, a kindred spirit. When Beaverfield is hit by heavy snowfall and all communications go down, it turns out that someone has not only killed Mrs. Anderton's dog but also sabotaged the generators. The locals, along with those who came about building a gas pipeline to this remote area, gather at the guest house and soon conclude that a cunning werewolf is hiding among them.
