About the title
The Russian Empire, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Thirteen-year-old nobleman and orphan Vanya Ogaryov flees from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod, escaping killers sent by his own uncle, who wants to seize the boy's inheritance. For protection, Vanya hires a bare-knuckle fighter, Volchok, whom he happens to run into. Volchok is supposed to get Vanya safely to Nizhny, where his father's loyal friend awaits him. But the whole plan starts falling apart from the very beginning: the dreamy, aristocratic aesthete Vanya and the rough, sullen brute Volchok can barely stand each other from the start. Ahead of them lies a dangerous journey that will change them both forever.
