About the series
This global war began almost a hundred years ago. Man invented a lethal weapon — the antibiotic — and, for the first time, tried to establish control over a world that had never been under his command. The battle continues to this day. But bacteria have learned to resist antibiotics — they've become resistant, immune to our weapon. According to WHO data, more than a hundred antibiotics were discovered in the past century. Over 80 of them are already obsolete. At this rate, sooner or later we will fall back into an age of epidemics. There will come a moment when a simple case of appendicitis again becomes synonymous with death, and the simplest operation becomes a high-risk procedure. People will remember what it means to die from a runny nose, diarrhea, or a common sore throat. "In fact, that moment has already arrived! And many bacteria today are practically invulnerable," scientists believe. Today humanity is at a dead end. What do we do next? How do we find a way out of the dangerous trap we've all fallen into?
