About the title
This historical drama is based on real events, which makes it all the more tragic, agonizing, and extraordinary. The film's hero is Victor Perez, a real boxer from the early twentieth century. Back in 1931, he became world boxing champion after continuously and persistently pursuing his dream from the age of 14. He then settled in Paris and started a family, marrying French-Italian actress Mireille Balin. His name was known around the world, but then war broke out. He was arrested in 1943 for being Jewish and sent first to a transit camp, where interned French citizens were gathered, and then deported to Auschwitz.
