About the title
32-year-old Polly lives alone. One winter night an unfamiliar woman comes to her door, claiming she cannot reach her son's home. Polly lets her in, offers her tea, and tries to help, but the woman has other plans. She tells Polly that she will die that very night unless she puts three things into a mysterious black box: something she loves, something she hates, and something she needs. Soon the stranger leaves, leaving Polly alone with the box, and strange, inexplicable events begin to happen in the house.
