About the title
Derby is an irreconcilable rivalry between two teams that extends far beyond the sports arena, encompassing not only players and fans but also sports schools, young hockey players and their parents, and even entire cities. Kids joining hockey clubs are told right away that the main thing in any tournament is to beat the longtime rival, whatever it takes. With this mindset, children grow into professional hockey players. The film tells about the nature of such rivalry and the upbringing within the hockey environment, its main characters being young players from Chelyabinsk's Traktor and Magnitogorsk's Metallurg.
