About the title
Edward and Connie Sumner are the envy of many: together with their eight-year-old son, a dog, and a housekeeper, they enjoy life in a quiet New York suburb. But fate, in the form of a young man Connie runs into in SoHo, deals a blow to this embodiment of the "American dream" and to the couple's happy, if slightly monotonous, existence.
