About the series
Officer Rick Grimes is wounded in a shootout and falls into a month-long coma. Waking up in an empty hospital, he wanders the corridors looking for a nurse, a doctor, anyone. Instead, he finds hordes of zombies — rotting corpses shambling around in a desperate search for living people to feast on. Rick is forced to flee from the walking dead (get it?) and finds his way home, but his wife and son aren't there. Wandering the area, Rick gets hit on the head with a shovel by little Duane, the son of a man named Morgan Jones. Morgan decides to feed the hungry Rick dinner and tells him what's been happening: zombies, many deaths, and panic all around. Lori and Carl, his wife and son. They head to the police station, where Rick gathers weapons and a car, and sets off for Atlanta. The car runs out of fuel, so he decides to find a horse and a barn, and rides into "Hotlanta" like a real Lone Ranger.
