About the series
The state of Gilead, occupying former U.S. territory, has become even more closed off 15 years after the uprising, and its laws have grown even harsher. Agnes MacKenzie, a student at Aunt Lydia's elite preparatory school for the daughters of high-ranking military officers and officials, is tasked with helping a new student, Daisy, who has arrived in Gilead from Canada, settle in. The two girls soon become friends, a friendship that changes their lives, and the outsider's perspective helps Agnes understand just how cruel and unjust the society around her is.
