About the title
The film "Retribution" (The Railway Man) is a true story based on the novel of the same name by Eric Lomax. British officer Eric Lomax was taken prisoner by the Japanese during World War II and forced to go through the hell of concentration camps. Eric endured numerous tortures, but the Japanese never managed to extract any information from him. He later took part in building railways in the jungles of Thailand, and it was only after the war ended that he was freed and returned home. For many years he dreamed of revenge, but in the end forgave those who had tortured him and even agreed to meet one of them on the infamous bridge over the River Kwai.
