About the title
The film is based on the legend of Amleth from the ancient Scandinavian chronicle recorded by Saxo Grammaticus. The story tells how the Viking Fjölnir kills his brother, King Horvendil, and takes his wife Gudrun as his own. Horvendil's son Amleth goes into hiding and swears to avenge his father's killer. When Amleth grows up, he joins forces with Olga, a Slavic witch abducted by the Vikings, and seeks to return home to kill Fjölnir.
