About the title
Dan Eldon, who was only 22 when he was killed by an enraged mob in Somalia, was one of the youngest photojournalists in Africa. But his work, published in Time and Newsweek, showed only a small part of his talent. Eldon excelled as an artist in his collages, which combined his photographs of Africa with paint, pop-culture imagery, advertisements and official documents. "The Journey Is the Destination" shows us pages from the 17 journals he kept while traveling through different countries. Looking through his work from age 14 to 22, one is struck not only by the vividness and thoughtfulness of the pages, but by the fact that someone so young could possess such artistic depth and insight.
