About the title
Frank Sheeran, nicknamed "The Irishman," seemed at first glance to be an ordinary American everyman: a devoted family man with a wife and four children, a war veteran, and a moderate drinker. But behind that mask was a man born in Ireland into a family with a stern, boxing-obsessed father — a man who spent so many days at war that he forgot how to sleep or live normally. His drinking was a direct result of post-traumatic stress, from which no family joy could save the former soldier. In his old age, this very man would confess to killing more than 30 major mafia figures.
