About the title
A family of Indian emigrants, whom fate has brought to a small town in Provence, decides to open a café serving Eastern cuisine... right across from the locally famous restaurant, the Weeping Willow, a bastion of French culinary tradition, whose owner, Madame Mallory, prides herself on the fact that her establishment has been awarded a star in the Michelin guide. At first, Madame Mallory makes no secret of her disdain for her noisy neighbors and their exotic habits, but gradually the war for customers between the two restaurants gives way to an uneasy truce, especially once it becomes clear that the young emigrant chef Hassan has a perfect palate, and the secrets of French cuisine come to him as easily as those of Indian spices.
