About the title
1930s, Korea under Japanese rule. A con man known as the Count offers a poor girl, Sook-hee, a chance to take part in a scheme, promising her a hefty payday. He plans to woo the wealthy Japanese heiress Hideko, run away with her to Japan, marry her, then declare her insane, commit her to an asylum, and seize her fortune. Sook-hee is to help him by getting hired as Hideko's maid — which she does. But suddenly, the Count's perfect plan comes under threat.
