About the title
In 1995, while traveling through the mountains of Bhutan, one of four American tourists falls into a strange cave and seems to slip into a trance. The fate of his companions is grim. In 2018, in the state of Missouri, former police officer James Lasombra, still grieving the deaths of his wife and young son, takes on the search for a missing high school student, Amanda. He learns that she recently performed a ritual on a bridge with friends, supposedly summoning the Empty Man. No one believes this urban legend, but James soon discovers the bodies of Amanda's friends under that very bridge, and the girl herself turns out to be somehow connected to a mysterious organization.
