About the title
Events unfold in 1986. The USA and USSR are still in a state of Cold War. Tense relations between the two nuclear powers and their constant buildup of arsenals raise serious concerns worldwide and among the rival countries' own leaders. American President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev decide to hold a meeting in Reykjavik to discuss the possibility of reducing both countries' nuclear weapons. The leaders face difficult negotiations in which every word spoken could lead either to peace and disarmament or to potential catastrophe.
