About the title
The film is based on the true story of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground after a collapse, for an unthinkably long 69 days. They were extremely lucky that people on the surface never stopped trying to find and rescue the missing miners. But with each day, being underground grew harder. The rescuers' task grew harder too, since time was running out and the situation left almost no room for error — yet they managed to free the captives, even though it had initially seemed unlikely.
