About the title
Suzume, a 17-year-old girl living in a quiet town on Kyushu, meets a young man traveling in search of «doors». Suzume feels an invisible force pulling her in, reaches out her hand toward the door, and soon doors all across Japan begin opening one after another. The doors that open must be closed to shut out the disasters on the other side, which would engulf the stars, the sunset, and the morning sky. In the places she wanders into, there is a sky under which all the hours of the day seem to merge into one. Drawn on by mysteries, she sets out on a «journey through closed doors» to close them...
