About the title
In June 1941, German occupiers burst into small border towns and settlements, catching civilians unawares. At that time, one of the towns was hosting an exhibition of rare antique coins and medals. Museum director Drozdova, with the help of the children Marisha and Misha, tries to protect the priceless exhibits. While saving them, the woman and the children find themselves trapped under the rubble of a building destroyed by a shell. Through tremendous effort, the heroine manages to get out from under the debris. Together with the children, the museum caretaker climbs into the truck of a random driver. At first the man agrees to help them, but soon decides to seize the valuables in order to hand them over to the Nazis. Drozdova manages to send the children off with the orders and medals to a remote forest lodge. To fulfill their duty, Marishka and Misha find the only way out — to turn to the local partisans for help.
