About the title
Elizaveta Petrovna has just buried her husband, with whom she lived her whole life. Her only daughter and only grandson are her whole family, whose lives were largely shaped by the deceased. While going through her husband's belongings, she discovers a letter from him. In it lies a secret the head of the family kept from Elizaveta Petrovna for decades — the story of his French love affair and a child born out of wedlock. The woman tries to tell her daughter Valeria about it, but Valeria has her own problems and interests and "no time for that." As for the grandson, he lives in his own separate reality. It seems that in this family, no one is used to listening, let alone hearing, each other. But gradually, each grieving in their own way, the family members find common ground.
