About the title
A German shepherd named Caleb is taken from a Jewish family when the Nazis come to power in Germany. Caleb is taken in by an SS officer, who trains him to catch Jews trying to escape from a concentration camp. Caleb is well cared for and easily handles his duties, but one day he recognizes a familiar scent. His former owner, a boy named Joshua, turns out to be in the camp. Caleb has not forgotten his loyalty to Joshua, whose life is now in danger. Together they escape from the camp, and after several months spent on the edge of life and death, they are found by partisans who help them reach Israel. Based on Asher Kravitz's novel 'The Jewish Dog' (Israel).
