About the title
1962 - the height of the standoff with the West. The Soviet Union is preparing an ambitious operation: the first nuclear submarine K-3 sets out into the Arctic, beneath the ice cover of the Arctic Ocean. Its mission is to reach the North Pole. The submariners are ordered to surface at that exact point. In this way, the Kremlin wishes to demonstrate to Washington: we are capable of delivering a nuclear strike from anywhere, even from the "top of the world." However, even at the preliminary testing stage, K-3's commander, Captain Second Rank Zhivtsov, faced serious navigation problems. And it is he who will have to command this complex expedition.
