About the title
The adoptive mother of Hortense, a Black London girl, dies, and she decides to find her biological mother. In parallel, the story develops the characters of Cynthia Rose, Hortense's mother, whom she is searching for; Roxanne, Cynthia's daughter and the heroine's half-sister, with her young suitor; and the mother's brother and his wife, who live in an estrangement bordering on quiet hatred... Much will change with the arrival of a new family member in the house.
