About the title
A wave of brutal murders has swept through the town, claiming defenseless victims. The Woodsboro phone maniac's next victim could be another girl — Sidney Prescott. A year ago her mother was raped and murdered, and now the maniac is threatening her too. But in her first nighttime confrontation with the killer, the girl manages to survive. Police find a mask and a cloak at the scene of the attack, but such masks can be bought at any horror shop, so the evidence is of no use to the investigation. There seems to be no motive for the murders, unless one accepts the main theory — that the maniac is a passionate horror movie fan who kills his victims purely for pleasure...
