About the title
Young Princess Ann arrives in Rome on an official visit. Her days are scheduled down to the minute — receptions, factory visits, interviews… in short, tedium! She's still just a girl, longing for freedom, and she slips out of the palace onto the streets, where the people of the Eternal City stroll, sing, and kiss. Unfortunately, shortly before her escape a doctor gave her a sedative injection, and the princess falls asleep on a bench. American journalist Joe Bradley happens to walk by on his way home after an evening at the card table. Early the next morning, on his editor's assignment, he is supposed to attend a press conference with Princess Ann, whom he has never laid eyes on.
