About the title
After the war ends, McNally asks the leader of the Confederate detachment, Pierre Cardonne, to identify the traitors who sold him information about the gold shipment. They learn that in Rio Lobo, a gang led by a corrupt sheriff has taken control of an entire town. Perhaps these are the very traitors the colonel is looking for.
