About the title
The film tells the story of legendary bank robber John Dillinger. His brazen heists made him an outstanding hero for the oppressed and the chief target of the FBI's top agent Melvin Purvis and his young partner J. Edgar Hoover. No one could stop Dillinger's gang. No prison could hold him. His charm and daring escapes made the criminal famous in a society that blamed banks as the main cause of the Great Depression. While the exploits of the daring gang, joined by Baby Face Nelson and Alvin Karpis, inspired the angry public, Hoover decided to seize the opportunity to turn the Bureau of Investigation into the country's leading law enforcement agency, the FBI. He made Dillinger America's most dangerous enemy and declared Purvis the savior, the pride of the Federal Bureau.
