About the title
Kristina's mother disappeared right after giving birth, and until the age of seven the girl lived with her stepfather, a reindeer herder, in the Far North. Despite having Asperger's syndrome, Kristina's dream of becoming a ballerina comes true when she is selected for a ballet school in Vologda, where her talent is noticed by a choreographer from Moscow. In the capital, Kristina, whom everyone calls Krysya, faces the cruelty and incomprehension of her peers, but her spirit, forged in the northern conditions, remains unbreakable. A worn pair of pointe shoes, inscribed "for mom," becomes a symbol of her pursuit of her main goal — to find her mother and dance for her on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre.
