About the series
1981. Ivan Petrovich Cherkasov is investigating a tangled case, and, as always, his superiors are unhappy with him. Cherkasov isn't just reprimanded at briefings and meetings — he's threatened with being pushed out of the job. Ivan Petrovich finds it hard to picture himself retired, but he realizes he's begun to tire quickly and miss important details — in short, to grow old. On top of that, a young investigator turns up who knows how to work with the newfangled computers and drags a lie detector into the department... Ivan Petrovich decides to give in, but he must put the final period on this last case himself. His loyal colleagues know a new hire won't replace an experienced detective, but the bosses are seriously angry and remove Cherkasov from the investigation. Yet it turns out that Ivan Cherkasov himself becomes the potential victim of the killer he's been hunting. Cherkasov understands the danger his wife and children are now in — he must protect them, and he cannot help but see this, his last case, through to the very end.
