About the title
The old, poor carpenter Geppetto cannot even afford to buy materials for his work, but one day he receives an unusual log as a gift. From the piece of wood he carves an almost real boy and names him Pinocchio. The newly-minted father's greatest dream is to send his son to school, so Geppetto sells his jacket and buys a primer. But instead of studying, the unruly boy runs off to a traveling puppet circus show, where performers who look very much like himself perform. Thus begin Pinocchio's adventures in a big world full of magic, mysteries, and cunning strangers.
