About the title
The film's plot is based on the true story of Danish serial killer Dagmar Overbye, who helped poor women get rid of unwanted children. Copenhagen, 1910. One day, a young factory worker named Karoline comes to work for Dagmar; the girl turns out to have been abandoned and is pregnant. She would like to give her child up to a foster family, to give him a chance at a better life. She counts on Dagmar's help, believing Dagmar is in the business of finding foster families. To avoid poverty, Karoline takes on the role of wet nurse. But one day, the horrifying truth about Dagmar's real activities is revealed to her.
