About the title
Two families live side by side in a small house on the outskirts of Prague. The head of the Šebek family is a high-ranking military officer sympathetic to the communists. The elder Kraus, meanwhile, is a veteran of the Czech resistance and a true patriot of his country. While the adults fight for their ideals, young Michal Šebek appears to have fallen for the pretty Jindřiška Kraus, whose thoughts, however, are occupied by someone else.
