About the title
Former dancer Marta moves with her daughter to the mountain village of Malanotte, an unwelcoming place full of strange superstitions. On the very first night, the ghost of the terrifying Pantafa appears to the girl in her sleep and steals her breath. Marta dismisses her daughter's frightening claims as fantasy. But with each passing day the surroundings grow more sinister, and Marta herself becomes unable to tell a waking nightmare from a nocturnal delusion.
