About the title
1945. The International Military Tribunal begins its work in Nuremberg. Enormous numbers of people from all over the world converge on the trial, which will later be called the Trial of the Century: the city is filled with journalists, lawyers, interpreters, witnesses, and countless participants and staff of the proceedings. Among those arriving in Nuremberg to work at the trial is Igor Volgin. He is young, but has been through the war, holds decorations, and speaks several foreign languages. Volgin is to serve as an interpreter with the Soviet delegation led by Colonel Migachev. One day, on a street in Nuremberg, Volgin meets a young Russian woman named Lena. Their budding feelings will go through many trials, but love is the one thing that has, in every era, saved the world from losing its humanity.
