About the title
Widower Viktor Stepanovich is a man of the old school. In raising his grandson Lyosha, he holds to the strictest views. He wants Alexei to grow up nothing like his daughter's current wimp of a fiancé. Due to a tense situation and another conflict with his daughter, Viktor Stepanovich suffers a heart attack. The doctor delivers an unfavorable prognosis: the grandfather has three months left to live, and even surgery offers no guarantee of recovery. Refusing treatment, the man decides on a desperate act — to kidnap his own grandson. Together the two set off on a journey full of adventures and grandfatherly wisdom.
