About the title
Calcutta, India. The country is in turmoil, one year remains before independence from Britain. Young nun Teresa does everything she can to feed 300 starving girls at the convent. Teresa has to put herself in danger, but miraculously avoids death. London, present day. Cellist Kavita, a descendant of immigrants, learns she is pregnant, but her partner Paul is not ready for such commitment. She travels to Calcutta — the place where her parents grew up — and gains entirely new experience and knowledge there. The stories of two women, who lived in different times and places, surprisingly resonate and intertwine into a single pattern.
