About the title
Emperor Ashoka, wishing to expand his domain and spread Buddhism beyond his country's borders, started a war in Kalinga - one of the bloodiest events in India's history. After his victory, he devoted all his strength to nine sacred scriptures - granthas - capable of turning any mortal into a deity.
