About the title
The film's events unfold in the days preceding a catastrophe. The first part is devoted to Justine's wedding, at which she quickly loses interest in the celebration, causing confusion among her relatives and guests. The heroine of the second part is Claire, Justine's sister. At first Claire cares for Justine, who has fallen into clinical depression, while dreading reports of the approach of the mysterious planet Melancholia.
