About the title
The film's heroine is junior lieutenant Maria Petrova. Her fate, like a mirror, reflects the fate of the country: the daughter of a priest, she renounced her father and her faith. But it falls to her, during the terrible days of the defense of Moscow, to deliver a miracle-working icon located behind enemy lines in occupied territory. According to legend, it is this holy relic that must save the capital. Having endured terrible trials, despite the death of every soldier in her unit and the loss of the man she loved, Maria will find hope for a future life.
