About the title
Set in Algeria in the 1930s. An apathetic Frenchman named Meursault learns of his mother's death and goes to her funeral. Those around him notice his indifference to his personal tragedy. It later becomes clear that the man is equally indifferent to career opportunities, prospects in his personal life, and other areas of life. One day, while relaxing on the beach, Meursault and his friends notice they are being followed by two Arab men and get into a confrontation with them. Some time later Meursault encounters these men again, but this time shoots one of them dead. The Frenchman is arrested. During the trial, the prosecutors desperately try to determine the motives for his crime. "The Stranger" (2025) is a crime drama by French director François Ozon, based on the novel of the same name by Albert Camus.
