About the title
France, 1949. Having lost hope of finding a job, music teacher Clément Mathieu ends up at a boarding school for troubled teenagers. There he witnesses the cruel "educational measures" employed by the institution's headmaster, Rachin. The more Rachin torments the boys, the more aggressive they become. Mathieu, kind-hearted by nature, is outraged by these methods, but he is unable to openly protest. Then one day, the composer of numerous musical works that he modestly keeps hidden in his room, hits upon a wonderful idea: to organize a school choir.
