About the title
Pyatigorsk, at the foot of Mount Mashuk, the morning of July 15, 1841. Two days ago Lermontov and Martynov were friends, but now they have become irreconcilable enemies. Only a few hours remain before their duel, but none of the poet's friends, relatives, or acquaintances give a thought to the tragic finale.
