About the title
Five sisters — from little Antonella to eighteen-year-old Maria — live in Palermo without their parents, earning a living by breeding pigeons at home, which they rent out for holiday ceremonies. The girls' life is carefree and no different from how other teenagers spend their time. One day, as usual, they go to the beach, where an accident occurs that claims the life of one of them. The death upends the relationship between the sisters, echoing decades later, in the hearts of the now-grown women, with irreconcilable grief of loss.
