About the title
The height of World War I. Connie and Clifford Chatterley have just gotten married, but very soon the man must return to the front. Some time later, he comes home traumatized in every sense of the word: from now on Clifford can only move around in a wheelchair, and no trace remains of his former tenderness toward his wife. Together they move to Wragby, the Chatterley family's country estate. The marriage withers day by day; Clifford finds solace in writing, while Connie finds hers in long walks across the endless fields. There she encounters the gamekeeper Oliver, an employee of the married couple, and finds hope of reawakening romantic feelings within herself and the pure joy of being able to love and be loved.
