About the title
Maria Montessori is devoted heart and soul to her work and refuses to marry her boss and colleague Giuseppe Montesano, for to her marriage is bondage for a woman, and Maria doesn't want to belong to anyone. Together with Giuseppe, they achieve remarkable results in their work, but keep their son Mario a secret, since an illegitimate child would ruin both of their reputations. One day, a beautiful Frenchwoman named Lili enters their lives, trying to place her ailing daughter Tina in the clinic.
