While attempting to cross the USSR state border, a resident agent of one of the Western intelligence services, who wanted to smuggle out photographic film shot at a Soviet defense facility, was detained and took his own life. From abroad, they send for a duplicate of the film the granddaughter of one of the closest associates of the Basmachi leader Ibrahim Bek — who has inherited from her grandfather a fierce hatred of the Soviet country — and the son of a man who betrayed his homeland during the war...
