About the title
A team of young club workers is preparing to celebrate the New Year. They plan to put on an interesting and fun celebration, but, to the young people's misfortune, the club's director, Ogurtsov — a bureaucrat, a pedant, and a petty official — takes it upon himself to control everything. Gathering everyone in his office, he explains in detail "his vision" of how to properly and usefully spend New Year's Eve. The organizers realize that instead of a celebration, Ogurtsov intends to serve the club's guests some sort of cocktail of an amateur talent show and a party meeting. And so the young people decide to outwit the narrow-minded boss through cunning, in order to organize a real New Year's ball.
